Maulana Abdul Razak Matovu
Founder of Bilal Islamic Institute
His Eminence Maulana Abdul Razak Matovu is remembered not only as a prominent Ugandan Muslim leader and scholar, but more so as the founder of one of Uganda’s most influential Islamic institutions—Bilal Islamic Institute**.
After completing his advanced Islamic studies in Pakistan in the early 1960s, Maulana Matovu returned to Uganda with a vision: to uplift the Muslim community through structured, quality religious education. He strongly believed that the future of Islam in Uganda depended on the nurturing of well-trained, morally upright, and intellectually equipped Islamic scholars.
